The Socio-economic transformation of the rural poor has been the focus on the attention of the Government of India, since the inception of planned development. The Government has been acting as a catalyst effecting change through implementation of a wide spectrum of programmes that are aimed at poverty alleviation, employment generation, infrastructure development and social security.
